Chicagoland SD is a free bi-weekly e-mail distribution service that was established in July 2011. The purpose of Chicagoland SD is to better inform dancers in the area of upcoming events such as dances, lessons, workshops, specials, weekends, festivals and conventions. On July 11, 2011 , the first publication was sent out to several hundred e-mail address's within the Chicagoland area. Since then, the number of recipients of the e-mail has grown significantly due to the popularity of the free service.
Since e-mail was quickly becoming the catalyst for quickly distributing any and all messages to the masses, Chicagoland SD was brought to the forefront of the local activity. Up to this point in time, the only means for delivering square dance information was through a local paper magazine publication or an area website. This required either purchasing a subscription or accessing the website via the internet in order to receive any information regarding local dances. The simplest answer to getting the information to the local area dancers quicker and easier was e-mail! A high percentage of the public check their e-mail at least once per day, if not more often than that. Therefore, Chicagoland SD became a no cost advertising publication for all square dance clubs, callers and cuers located in the Chicagoland area.
In April 2012, Chicagoland SD hosted their first dance with Gary Shoemake and Bobby Poyner calling the squares along with Howard & Anna Hoffman on the rounds. Over 18 squares were in attendance that evening, making the dance a huge success!! Since then, Chicagoland SD has hosted 10 more dances as well as 2 trail-in dances to the Illinois State Square & Round Dance Convention. 2014 brings 6 more sponsored dances through June with more dances to follow in the summer, fall and winter. The purpose of these sponsored dances is to bring national/international callers to the Chicagoland area that the majority of the dancers have never heard before.
Looking towards the future; Chicagoland SD has many more things planned for the Chicagoland area square dancers!!!!

COMMENTS FROM VARIOUS CHICAGOLAND SD RECIPIENTS

.........." GREAT SITE!! Lots of HARD work done already and much more to come. A single place for reliable and current information is critical in any major metropolitan area for Dancers (and others) to keep informed and to help promote an activity that is all too well hidden. EVERY Club, Caller, Cuer, Organization and Association anywhere near this area needs to include this site on their links and in their emails. Keep up the hard, dedicated work. It is very much appreciated, even if not said often enough!" - 1/23/14
